we're buying a house. and it's more stressful than i thought it would be. looking on realtor.com isn't as much fun when you have a $250,000 limit and most of the decent homes in that range have contigent offers on them. we're worried about moving the kids to different schools. sometimes, kenzie is fine with it, sometimes she demands we keep her at silvestri. one day we all sat together at the table to make a list of what was important to us in our search. here's what we all had to say...
fire extinguisher by the kitchen
nice people/not stupid
skulls on his walls + poster of george washington
bricks on the front of the house
two story (this is VERY important to her)
walk in closet (in her room)
bricks on front of house
grass in backyard/pool
her own bathroom
walk in closet
grass in both yards
3 car garage
hard floors in all walkways
bigger laundry room
would love wood floors and shutters
3 car garage
starbucks + target close by
lots of windows
the house CAN'T have:
guys drinking out of blenders in their driveway (we've seen this before)
major street behind house
garage door opening into the front room
all rocks in the backyard
madi and max both had library today and with the book fair going on, that meant they could do a little shopping. all morning, madi was asking me for money. luckily i had some cash. she got $10 and max got $7. madi got a book, and a monkey pen. max got 2 erasers that looked like money, a bookmark and the phineas and ferb 2d book. while i was sick, we watched that phineas and ferb 2d show twice, so i had some of the parts memorized as i read the first chapter to max tonight.
kenzie has stayed after school for two days helping teachers. she's getting those 4 hours of community service taken care of for honor society.
max looks forward to cub scouts each week. tuesday's at 6:30 - at cartwright. he has already memorized the cub scout promise. i think he enjoys that time with his dad too.
max tells me he can walk up to school by himself. that first day i stood at the fence until the bell rang. watching him walk from one playground, past the tetherballs to the other playground in search of a friend. i'm guessing he eventually found one, i lost him in the crowd, until it was time for him to go line up. i've got him coming out to the car after school too. so far, he's still a fan of first grade.
mackenzie had her first honor society meeting this week. we've started picking brianna up for school. then after school, as soon as kenzie gets done with her homework, she takes kobe down to pick up brianna and bring her back to our house.
i spent the entire three day weekend on the couch sick. sore/swollen throat, achy body, and throbbing head. over the three days i ate 2 smoothies, 2 popsicles, 1/2 slurpee, a few pretzels and crackers and some pasta salad. eating, for once, did not sound like fun.
while i was down... max got his haircut, the family went to the potter's for a bbq, kenzie arranged a trip to king putt with some friends and then they had in-n-out for lunch and walked over to petco to look around next. kobe spent a lot of time barking at me.
last weekend we went to dinner at the yardhouse with dave and christi. grandma carter wanted the kids for the night, so after school on friday, kobe and i delivered them. kobe was not too happy about returning home kidless. dinner was very good (as usual - because i got the usual - so did darric). on our way home, after dropping off the potters, we swung into cold stone and got a treat.
saturday, before we picked up the kids, darric and i went to the greek bistro for lunch. the food was yummy and so was the baklava i ordered to go. i ate the entire thing myself.
the bertrands and jesse were at g+g carter's. we visited for a little while and then headed home. madi and i ran over to bath and body works to get some new fall goodies. i got a haunted house wallflower, some wallflower refills, a fox wallflower for fall and a glow in the dark skull car scent thing. oh... and 4 different hand soaps. that evening the bertrands and jesse came over to our house to visit. we ordered 24" pizzas from angelinas and none of us could get over how big they were. it was pretty funny.
sunday, madi and i went to check out target's halloween stuff and then over to michaels for a couple things. we picked up firehouse subs on the way home. we wanted cafe rio, but they didn't open until 11.
tuesday morning was super dark outside. it was rainy day schedule when i dropped the kids off. i was a little worried about max knowing where to go, until argenus came running up yelling his name. made me laugh. by the time i got my pumpkin crunch bagel and got back out to the car, it was pouring. the lightning was going off everywhere and the thunder was getting louder and stronger. i couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. kobe on the other hand, acted like a total tard when i let him out to go to the bathroom. he came back in and ran around the room like a pinball that was just shot out.
at school, max got a card color change. once because he was on the wrong page and the second day because he was goofing off with some other kids. he assumed he was going to have to stand on the wall for 5 minutes during recess on thursday, so thursday morning was miserable. he started at home. complaining about those 5 minutes. then in the car, he said he wasn't going to school. i tried to be nice, i tried to joke around, i tried to distract and i was at some points.... mean. he refused to get out of the car, so i helped him. then walked him up to his line and stood there with him. while he punched his backpack and jumped on his lunch box. the bell rang, the kids lined up and his teacher told him to get in line. that didn't happen. his teacher told him again to get in line or he was going to have the assistant principal come walk him to class. he didn't want to listen to either of us and when i walked towards him, he walked away from me. so i snagged him and dragged him out to the car. i don't do well with an audience and there were plenty of parents standing around. i was furious. heavy breathing and my heart was pounding.
i warned him not to talk to me anymore and he didn't, the entire time we waited in the long starbucks line. no complaining from him that i didn't get him anything either. when we got home, i informed him there was no tv or electronic games to be played. and surprisingly, he entertained himself all day long.
the next day (friday), he was a little stressed about those 5 minutes on the wall, but he walked up with madi that morning and madi stayed with him until the bell rang. he ended up not standing on the wall and even had a great day.
after school, we took kenzie to babysit baby paisley. the three of us stopped at purple penguin on the way home. (probably our last visit for this summer) we had faustos/mcdonalds for dinner, then drove up in anthem to drive by a house. darric was very impressed with the mile long park. kenzie got home just before we did.
satuday morning darric had to go run a couple calls. when he got home, we went for a little drive up in anthem again to look at houses (just from the car). matt dropped jodie off at our house and then the two of us left to drive out to cindy's house for rayanne's baby shower. we were late, but they hadn't started anything yet, so we were ok. heidi, andrea, chris, liz and ben were all there. andrea had her new baby. he's just as cute as her other boy.
i love getting to see family. so i was excited to come today. i actually won a game (probably a first for me). it was the "guess how much" game. i felt guilty for winning. liz was off just a few cents more than me. we had to leave early. before she got to our present ;( because i had to be to dan's birthday dinner at dessy b's. i was a half hour late, but at least matt came and picked jodie up from there so i didn't have to drop her off.
sunday, we drove back up in anthem (twice actually). we went to jen + dave's for jacob's birthday dinner.
and that's all i typed up. :)
