september 23rd through the 29th
tuesday was finally cooled off enough for max to wear his vest to school. he was one happy boy. while we waited in the car for 7:40 to come around, we took a group picture, for old times' sake.
wednesday i went and joined my mom for lunch at cafe zupas.
madi's been staying after school every day to help teachers out and get hours for her student council community service. one day, after we dropped kenzie off (at volleyball practice) and picked madi up, we went by target to check out their halloween stuff. and like everyone else on instagram, my kids couldn't help putting on the big, cool wigs for a picture. madi realized after i took the picture, that she had her wig on backwards.
part of max's homework every night is practicing flashcards and reading for 15 minutes. then he has to write a summary of what he's read. he is almost done with the first diary of a wimpy kid book.
kobe does good when we leave him alone now. to be on the safe side, we always lock the laundry room door and tie together the pantry doors. and just before we leave, he's usually found sitting on the couch, resting his head on the back of it watching us go.
kenzie had two away games this week. the first one was on tuesday, the 24th, way out at centennial. centennial was really good and silverado was doing really good against them, but choked at the end and lost. on thursday, the 26th, they played at valley. grandma and grandpa carter met us there. i guess kenzie was being punished for her hitting at the last game (even though darric thought she played really well) and wasn't allowed to start this game. but, when they started losing the second set, she got to come in. valley was probably the worst team they've played so far.
friday after kenzie got done with practice, we took max and madi over to g+g carter's house for a sleepover along with billy, tommy, gabi, darian and later jayce. we took kenzie and went to applebee's for dinner. (super exciting, i know) we did make kenzie happy by crossing the parking lot to crepe shack and waffles for dessert. she's been wanting to go there for a long time. darric and i haven't been there before. we thought it was a breakfast place with ice-cream on the side, but we were wrong, it's more of a dessert place, i guess. it was interesting. they have thrifty ice-cream there and we got it in crepe cones. which could have been good if i could have eaten it with a spoon, but you are supposed to bite into it like a burrito. my teeth weren't too happy.
saturday we got up and headed over to pick up the kids. we stayed there for awhile and visited while the kids played some more. the bertrands were already gone, but the daytons and jesse showed up shortly after us. eventually we ordered lunch. pizza/sandwiches (the kids had leftovers from last night). while the adults were eating, max comes over, holds up a bloody finger and asks grandma carter, calmly, if he can have a band-aid. dani and jesse take him into the bathroom, try to stop the blood from squirting out and bandage him up. i guess he was making a snowflake and trying to poke the scissors through the folded paper and they slipped and got him. he usually doesn't do well at the sight of any blood, so i was surprised with how well he did with this.
sunday morning, darric went and dropped madi off with mckiah at her church so they could get more community service hours helping out with the kids. when he got back, the two of us took care of the pepper tree and weeds. the tree was getting a bit out of control and hung over the entire front yard. but, darric fixed that today. darric cut it all down and sawed the big branches, then i clipped the smaller branches so we could fit them all into garbage bags.
