august 25th through the 31st
the last week of august. this week was back to school. back to waking up early, doing homework (already!), making lunches, taking nightly showers, dropping kids off, picking kids up, practices and sonic happy hour drink runs.
the first day of school went smoothly. along with the rest of the week too.
max doesn't have any of his good friends in his class. but, he gets to play with them at recess. he's taken his lunch every day, but claims he doesn't have much time to eat a lot, so he has asked for just half a sandwich and one snack. i think he probably spends some of his time putting quarters in the sticker/baseball card machines.
he had to move his card to yellow three times this week. first time he asked a kid when the video they were watching was going to be over and the next day, he was telling someone how to fold something. the third day, he got bored while the teacher was talking and started doing tricks with his hands (the trick where you place your hands together, put your middle fingers down, twist your hands and then wiggle your two middle fingers back and forth like a teeter totter. we've all been doing it now since max showed us.)
he doesn't like it when madi says "i told you she was strict". (i think him and i were just hoping she was wrong)
he started back up with wrestling on monday. with coach kearney, cole's dad. practices are three days a week, monday, wednesday and thursday for two hours. he's really enjoying it so far and doing really well, hasn't gotten mad once. the first day we went, about half way through, one of the older (high school) boys did something to his knee and everyone around him thought it was broke (i think it ended up being dislocated). he was moaning, they were all "oh! oh! shit! oh!" and i was about to pass out. luckily, one of the dads that was in there must have been a doctor. he went over and popped it back into place and the boy limped over to the side and sat down. i know he wanted to cry, i did. there were no more injuries after that and we got to go to yogurtland afterward, as a reward for doing good (and for making it through the first day of school).
kenzie wasn't too thrilled about going back to school, but i think that changed a little when she had two of her volleyball friends to sit with at lunch on the first day. two days this week, she went to lunch (after school) to taco bell and port of subs with her friend sydney. she's learning quite a bit in her japanese class already. they've learned a few words, what to say when the teacher calls their names for attendance, how to bow at the beginning and end of class and they also learned a dance. they watched a video with two guys dancing and while that was playing, her teacher was up doing the dance along with the guys. then the students got to join in too.
she has volleyball practice after school every day from 3:00 - 6:00. they're doing a lot of conditioning right now, so she usually comes home sore. wednesday, after practice, we had a volleyball meeting in the gym. the coach just went over the rules and such with all of the teams and their parents. we also found out who her secret sister is this year. a girl named dayna. not sure who she is.
madi didn't have student council on the first day of school, but tuesday she was back to arriving at 6:55 (after we drop off kenzie). in PE, they haven't really been doing anything yet. she made a friend in class though, one of the girls that's in student council with her. they haven't started anything in geometry yet. still waiting for some of the students to get signed up to their online class, i think. her and mckiah have been going in with the math counts class (kinda like the mathletes) and doing their work, which is really confusing to everyone but the teacher and a couple students.
her crt test scores finally arrived in the mail. we think they are pretty awesome, but she wasn't too impressed with them. for math, she scored 419 and reading, she scored 440. both scores exceed the standard level. yeah, she's smart.
me, i wasn't looking forward to the kids going back to school. i've come to the conclusion that i just want them with me all of the time. ok... maybe it's that i want them to be little again and be home with me all the time. i'm not ready for another school year. it's going to fly by just like the rest of them. one thing i did look forward to, was the arrival of pumpkin at einstein bagels. wednesday was the day and you can bet i was there for a pumpkin walnut crunch bagel with pumpkin shmear that day and the next and the next. and christmas came a little early for me this week. i ordered a lens off of groupon. a tamron 24-70mm. and it arrived friday afternoon. it's kind of similar to the other lens i use all the time, but i can zoom in and out with it which makes me sooo happy. (i made some more homemade pizzas this week too)
darric was in california until thursday. they were in their class until about 4:00 every day. then he would call to see how things were going and to talk to all of the kids. he assigned max the "man of the house" while he was gone. which really just means he checks the doors before he goes to bed. oh, and he sits in dad's chair at the table. darric ate well while he was away. chipotle, california pizza kitchen, yard house and cheesecake factory. him and robert finished their final test early enough that they were able to move their flight up and arrived in las vegas around 4:00 pm on thursday. kenzie was at practice, so me, max and madi went to pick him up. he went to wrestling practice with max that night.
kobe. he's probably having the hardest time adjusting to the school schedule. he's not used to us being gone so much. he missed his daddy, but he liked getting to sleep in his spot at night. now he's back on the floor, sleeping on any piece of clothing that darric leaves down there.
