Halloween was on a Monday this year. Which wasn't a horrible thing, I just think it should be a rule that Halloween can only be on the weekend. We went to the Bertrand's. As soon as Darric got home from work, my corn muffins finished cooking and Madison had finished up Max's makeup. It was just the four of us because Kenzie went out with her friends.
We were total procrastinators with costumes this year (which I felt pretty bad about). Madison pulled items together for her "tourist" costume when she got home from school. And about 45 minutes before we headed to the Bertrand's, Max finally let us talk him into being a zombie. For his costume, Madi cut up some of his old clothes and worked her magic, making him look the part. He wanted to just wear his regular clothes and be a basketball player, but I wouldn't allow him to go trick-or-treating if he didn't look like he had on a costume.
The Bertrands went all out on their decorating again and Jayce took dressing up and and scaring trick-or-treaters very seriously. And he did scare a bunch of them. We were inside watching the security camera footage on Jan and Dana's phones. We'd hear the screams outside as we sat viewing it all on the screens.
For dinner, we enjoyed Jan's chili and the cornbread I made (from a box). And for dessert... pumpkin chocolate chip cookies that I whipped up earlier today.
Once the sun was down, me, Dana, Madison, Darian and Max headed out to do some trick-or-treating. Darian tried acting like he was just going along so Max didn't have to go to the doors alone, but we all knew he'd end up filling his pockets full of candy again like last year. Madison didn't plan on going up to any doors, but there were several houses (probably more than half) that just had buckets sitting out with candy in them, so she joined the boys for those.
At one of the houses, there was a person dressed up on the porch (like Jayce). He was sitting right behind the bowl of candy. Darian went right up for the candy and wasn't bothered at all when the guy moved. But, Max and Madison kept their distance. Neither of them were brave enough to go in for the candy. So, eventually, the guy threw some to them instead.
The three of them ended up with quite a bit of candy just from the few streets we went down. And then Dana took the boys to the newer houses right behind their house, but there weren't that many people passing out candy over there.
Hopefully next year, we'll be more on top of things so we can squeeze out at least one more Halloween with trick-or-treating. (why do kids have to grow up?)
Now Kenzie... she was a Powerpuff Girl, along with Catherine and Kaylynn. The three of them gathered their supplies over the weekend so they could wear their costumes to school today. And tonight, they went to Town Scary (aka Town Square) to eat at Capriotti's and walk around with Cody and Linaudre.
