on saturday, february 7th, we celebrated madison's birthday with a party at home. it's tradition.
guests: me, max, mckiah, bailey and hannah. grandma carter brought savannah and gabi over a little while after the party started. (kenzie had practice and darric was at the gym)
food: nachos and a veggie tray
drinks: we put together an italian soda bar. suggested syrup combinations... strawberry + coconut = tigers blood... strawberry + lemonade = strawberry lemonade... cherry + vanilla = cherry cream soda... peach + vanilla = peaches & cream... pineapple + raspberry = pineapple razz... added in with some crushed ice, sparkling water, cream and whipped cream and they were quite the hit.
dessert: a chocolate chocolate chip nothing bundt cake
gifts: she got a handful (or should i say neckful) of necklaces, a best friends bracelet, starbucks card and savannah and gabi made her pictures
games: the four girls played minute to win it games that included shooting rubber bands at stacked soda cans, pulling tissue out of a box with one hand and bouncing a ping pong ball out of a tissue box taped to their backside
goodie boxes: each of the girls got a little box filled with candy and on the lid, i attached mini lip balms to look like knobs.
on her actual birthday, grandma carter brought her some homemade cookies and a card with some birthday cash. and that night we had an ice-cream cake for dessert and she opened a little gift from us, a new shirt and orange tic tacs.
and here's the recipe for the ice cream cake that i found here. it was even better than i expected.
ice cream sandwich cake
• 1 cup chopped oreos + more for decorating
• 1/2 cup milk
• 1 package (3.9 oz.) instant chocolate pudding
• 1 container (12 oz.) whipped topping
• 12 ice cream sandwiches
combine milk and pudding mix. whisk until smooth. add half of the whipped topping and stir just until combined. stir in the chopped oreos.
arrange six of the ice cream sandwiches side by side forming a rectangular cake. spread the pudding mixture evenly over the sandwiches and top with remaining six sandwiches.
spread remaining whipped topping over the entire cake. sprinkle additional crushed oreos over the top and freeze for at least 30 minutes or until ready to serve.
